Shadowing and Competency Assessment of New Staff
As part of the OPUS 'Gold Standard' Training Programme for care staff, it is recommended that a Manager/ Senior Staff member who is a certified Assessor shadow new staff as part of their medicines training programme and the assessment of their competence.
What Shadowing is Required?
Staff should be shadowed on 3 occasions before being assessed as competent, or not competent.
We have prepared a helpful downloadable form to guide Managers through the training, shadowing and competency assessment process.
Who Should Be Doing the Shadowing?
Shadowing and observation should be undertaken by a certified Assessor.
